I love Shel Silverstein and my kids think this poem about a snow ball is so very funny!
Snow Ball
I made myself a snow ball as perfect as could be
I thought I’d keep it as a pet and let it sleep with me
I made it some pajamas and a pillow for it’s head
Then, last night it ran away
But first — it wet the bed.

Snow and Ice Lesson
It’s a good poem to use during science when you talk about states of matter – how snow and ice go from solid to liquid. We bring in a snowball from outside, make it a little bed and watch what happens over the course of the day.
To expand on this activity, the next day I bring in ice cubes and we watch them melt – one cup with just ice cubes and one with ice cubes and salt. I use the scientific method and have the children write out each step of the experiment.
