I decorate my classroom door both on the inside and outside. Of course, the outside is always something seasonal or thematic. The inside of my door is a work in progress year round.
Fourth graders are very inquisitive and can always come up with some great questions but at inopportune times. I have sticky notes on the side of my door for students to write down questions of an educational nature (you need to define “educational nature” with your students ahead of time) and stick up for later.
During free time, I have the children pick a question from the door and research the answers. I also add questions based on academic themes we are studying. If you are in need of more questions, have students come up with three questions as part of their homework assignment to have on hand.
When a question has been answered it is shared with the class. It’s amazing how kids get into this and become the experts on the subject matter.
