I have a place designated as the Vacation spot in my classroom. When students are having a difficult time behaviorally, emotionally, or socially, they go on vacation for a few minutes to cool down. I introduce this spot at the beginning of the year and even demonstrate how to use it by showing kids different ways to calm down. Make it comfortable and decorate it like as if the child were on vacation. This helps children deal with their upsets in a much more positive way and offers them a safe place to go to.
