First Day With Kindergartners

I start my day by having my students color nursery rhyme coloring pages at their tables that will eventually be made into a little book each child gets to take home at the end of the week. While they are busy coloring, I can help students get adjusted, help put away supplies, greet new students as they enter late, take care of attendance, etc.  This also lets me talk to parents that stick around and ensure them that all is well before I encourage them to leave.  Children work on a new one every day the first week – a great calm activity to start the day.
